SparkLAN Hotel Wireless Networking Solution is designed specially for hotels, business lounges, conference centers, and restaurants…, etc., to efficiently set up a broadband wireless network with a high speed networking performance up to 11Mbps. Hotel staff and guests can easily access the Internet anywhere within the covered area, indoor and outdoor.

This solution has five characteristics; they are: “fast network build up”, “fast network connection”, “fast return on investment” and for hotels, the wireless LAN network is “easy to use” and “easy to maintain”.

Typical Hotel WLAN Issues
Because each hotel room is an enclosed single unit, it is difficult for the wireless LAN signal to travel through walls. Due to this fact, more Access Points (APs) are needed on every floor to provide wireless Internet access and thus the cost of setting up such wireless communication will also increase. Another drawback is that a WLAN adaptor must be installed on every guest’s laptop computer. In order to serve those who want Internet access, hotels will have to hire more technical personnel to provide guests technical support. If a guest does not have the required CD-ROM or floppy drive, there will be no possibility for him or her to have any Internet connection. Finally, a common problem is how to charge the guests for their wireless Internet access. The more sophisticated a billing mechanism is, the higher expenditure on software and hardware, the longer it will take hotels to obtain a return on investment.

Solution
SparkLAN address the above issues by the following solution components and mechanism.

l Outdoor Access Point
The wireless Access Point can transmit from outdoors to indoors so that the transmission can be received inside each hotel room.(See Figure 1)The user can easily access through the Access Point. Less interference occurs at the same time and a single AP can support several rooms; therefore, the AP service area is increased at a reduced cost.

l Driver-Free Client Adapter
In typical WLAN client device, driver installation is always the first step of struggle to deploy wireless LAN connectivity. With Driver-Free client Adapter, users and system providers will never need to worry about this hassle anymore. The Driver-Free Client Adapter can accept power from power source or laptop’s USB port.
